The Kamnara of Sakwa are making ground to build for future generations
Greetings from the Kamnara of Sakwa!
The Kamnara people of Sakwa on 27th December 2024 gathered at Village Park, Ajigo (near Bondo). Hosted by Kwaka Joseph, they hearkened to the consultative forum call, arriving in good numbers and early enough for a successful day.
The gathering was chaired by Mr. Nying’ro James Onyango, a former (retired) assistant commissioner of Police.
The introductions were excellent. The genealogies were mentioned in reverence, lengthy ones applauded. And courtesy of Enos Oyaya’s book, “Kamnara my people”, anyone who would need help had the documentation. Oyaya had launched the Kamnara book on 30th December 2022 at his home in Kamnara Mwalo, an event that gathered Vakamnara from far and wide.
“What can we do that the generations to come will benefit from?” This was the clarion Mr. Kwaka Joseph called on all to fashion their minds to. And issues were raised in the fields of Education, health, agriculture, enterprise, politics and more that the swift dholuo would pass my ear.
Rationalizing that it was best the lowest hanging fruits be harvested first, Mr. Siwa Joshua, moderating, received varied feedback including naming of the consultative forum, the organizational structure, constitution, inclusion of women and youths and more.
Elder Ogore Vincet from Rajoro, South Sakwa would recollect of the former days when Kamnara East Africa movement was alive. The movement included Saniaga in Maragoli and beyond. The Kamnara of Sakwa are immediate relatives of Saniaga Kamnara of Logooli, Saniaka of Tachoni and Saniak of Elgeyo Marakwet and Keiyo (Kamnaria) communities of Kalenjin.
In shaping a way forward that would spur the Avakamnara again, the consultative forum did agree on two main committees to join the interim leadership in formulating a strategic way forward for the Kamnara people.
The committees formed are; Education committee whose contact person is Dr. Osena Fred and Economic committee whose contact person is Mr. Siwa. The two committees were tasked to present written strategy papers in the next meeting; free to coopt resourceful Kamnaras during the deliberations process.
A gathering to air feedback and endorsing a Kamnara action plan was suggested to be in the new year 2025 the month of April.
