Statement on closure of Kidundu Community Library to pave way for stadium construction
....
The Kidundu Community Library fraternity joins the community in welcoming Kidundu National Stadium. We were housed in the Aziaya building, right at the soon-to-be ‘old gate’. The building is now marked for demolition as it now belongs to the area within the identified larger land for the stadium.
Since 2021 the Library has been of service to knowledge seekers, private space readers, safe place for young learners and an interaction place for the community. Much thanks to the sole sponsor, Ms. Andiah Kisia.
From 2024 the Library served as an address office for Vihiga United Football Club in aim to attract the youth to the library discussions as well as partnership where we received book donations from the Club Chairman, Mwalimu Kahi Indimuli.
With the Presidential Declaration on Thursday 19th 2026 at Kidundu that the stadium will take 9 months to completion under the supervision of Kenya Military, we are hopeful that in the runup to its launching one of the capacities inside or beside the stadium will be a community Library.
A community Library as value addition to the stadium will provide space for sports men and women to interact with modern Library services, keep their education ongoing, assist in sports science intellectual resources and increase general public interaction with the stadium.
This, those in charge of the stadium can undertake, if not part of the design, to be a pro-bono in-service as construction work nears finishing.
In the meantime we urge learners and those who found the Library useful to find the services from other community libraries including Saide Library in Chavakali and Saniaga CBO Library at Wangulu.
