The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

Just because gambling is legal...

-:It's true as you say, the bigger tragedy however is that these people borrow to gamble, the hundreds of betting outfits is what will kill the current generation, borrowing for investment is ok but borrowing to gamble with is what we need to urgently educate our people against. By the way, did you know these gambling outfits belong to top politicians?Immorality is right at the top of the ladder of leadership in this country

-‬: That is a legitimate business that is licensed similar to drinking pubs strewn all over. You even enjoy part of its taxes on the road you are standing on. The paradox of life itself.

-: Gambling has been there from time immemorial. Our generation was never  exposed to it, but with technology, computer games are available to our 4yr olds... you cannot beat them and that's some of gambling beginnings. Embrace technology but get gurus to put in 4 yrs old the dangers until it sinks in. Thats the best solution. Dont condemn. Example We know there exists "Omusara" and Vihiga County leads, everyone knows about it but how come that hasnt bogged down the people? Take a leaf on that... control is important as gambling is global and is here with us, to stay.

-: Just because it's legal doesnt mean it's beneficial to our society

-: Suggest control measures. Legalization is somewhat a control measure

-: This is true for activities that were once illegal cause it takes away power from the few cartels that control it underground. Even though betting has always been legal, kitambo you'd always see sub-chiefs reprimanding boys who'd be caught nivakinaa isimbi cause everyone was aware it was a menace and it served no good even to the young men. At this point they cant ban it or anything, just make it hard for both the business people and participants to keep doing it. This especially for the small gambling shops popping everywhere. It shouldn't be easy to randomly open and run a mini-casino,tax the bigger ones like the gava is already doing, they'll just keep lowering the odds and people find it unattractive to place bets.
