Chahilu’s Funeral; Logooli Culture in action

Guuga Chahilu was respectfully laid to rest at his home on Saturday 14th June 2025. Having passed on at Mbale Referral Hospital on 31st May 2025, the two weeks leading to his burial were full of cultural discussions. His passing on is a great loss to the Logooli Language and Culture Family as he was a custodian and informer of Luhya Indigenous Knowledge. An observation as to how the funeral proceeded leads us to revist Logooli traditions amidst modern realities.  One, having left the house alive and now coming back in state, Chahilu was to be taken inside the house, placed muihiilu for a moment and then officially taken out in wait for earth burial. His casket was able to enter the doors. There are cases where the dead would find it difficult to be taken in and then out due to an oversized casket or thin door. Now, now, now!

-‬: Bottom line we live in a free world and society  devoid of oppressiveness especially on freedom of expression..

- do what suits  you your carrier but when you are in a group don't try impose your beliefs about life on others ...every under the sun by man is debatable and can be challenged Thanks for you personal opinion though

To be treated as the King, first the king should provide what he expect to be cooked and be served eventually by the wife. The big plate said,  he must provide, the many foods he expects he must provide however, the pastor does not expect anything so he accepts whatever is brought forward, he just accepts and even prays for more to arrive not how huge the plate is but how pure is the heart it is given because pastor is known to have nothing, so the struggle is shared.

The so called King dominates, arrives home with nothing, expecting who to have provided for him? Men be responsible and count how many chickens are hatched daily before leaving the compound don't assume they hatched two weeks ago.

Then instruct wife to slaughter a chicken, and that is your expectation. Anything else will have been provided by the pastor if not someone else while you desire to wallow in Kingship. Take head, men, provide.
