The Kamnara of Sakwa are making ground to build for future generations

Greetings from the Kamnara of Sakwa! The Kamnara people of Sakwa on 27th December 2024 gathered at Village Park, Ajigo (near Bondo). Hosted by Kwaka Joseph, they hearkened to the consultative forum call, arriving in good numbers and early enough for a successful day. The gathering was chaired by Mr. Nying’ro James Onyango, a former (retired) assistant commissioner of Police. The introductions were excellent. The genealogies were mentioned in reverence, lengthy ones applauded. And courtesy of Enos Oyaya’s book, “Kamnara my people”, anyone who would need help had the documentation. Oyaya had launched the Kamnara book on 30th December 2022 at his home in Kamnara Mwalo, an event that gathered Vakamnara from far and wide. “What can we do that the generations to come will benefit from?” This was the clarion Mr. Kwaka Joseph called on all to fashion their minds to. And issues were raised in the fields of Education, health, agriculture, enterprise, politics and more that the swift dholuo would...

You love movies? Stupid

I am not a fan of movies. I have no patience with visuals. I am quick to judge how a woman poses, how a man talks and how a child is included in a PG movie. Because I have friends, I have been forced to watch a few movies. Some have been good to recommend and others madly detrimental. The noises and language is enough to last me a thousand birthdays.
Movies are a waste of time. If you have nothing to do please watch a movie. It is better than masturbating. Get lazy, wake up not, get hold of the remote, keep your door shut and have a post on it- Do not disturb! Then pick up any fake creation of a dinosaur scaring people in a park, a botched biological experiment and sort of things. They say no time is wasted in enjoying wasting it.
I have come to learn that movies tend to have a similar flow of story. It could be about discovering secrets, following up an enemy, useless warring and things of sort. They are creations of the ‘present’. A movie is as good if it portrays immediate occurrences. Books that have tended to inspire movies have been raped in daylight. I could have clicked when I saw ‘things fall apart cast’.
There are more movie buying shops than bookshops in estates. And the movies are but illegally copied and sold. More children are into watching than playing. More short acts are conspired to be songs. Singers do not hold the guitar and sit any more. The lift their legs high, shake their bumps. Some fight. It is a movie.
I have a friend who thinks a movie is a real life happening. Look at the year the movie was made, get to know about behind the scenes. You will come to know that a dinosaur was an inflated balloon, the bullets were toys and the cars did not blast. They emptily entertained you.
Because ours is a noisy society, the noisiest of the movies attract more. Action movies. Bu bububu…pupupupupu…gunshots. For two hours there is nothing but falls, blasts, shots, fights and fake blood. Women beat men bravely, helicopters hover, footsteps thud. Whether it is based on real life event or not, it is a fake. Noisy mind bears a rowdy character.
I shared with my friend that there is some truth in the way actors portray themselves. That they own part of the character at play. They are not in disguise. A woman who plays as a prostitute in a movie is a prostitute down in the genes even if she will die a virgin. A man who plays the ‘saviour’ role does not mean he got black spots on his heart. It keeps a skeptic disturbed. A corrupt official in a movie is a corrupt human being in another sector of life.
I regard books above movies. Movies tend to show you how, books explain how. Excuse me, I can deduce that by self! Books are author specific meaning that they have individual authenticity. On the other hand, movies are group creations- inclusion of ideas and characters that have been much used before. Because I am not easily deceived by plastic surface pampering, I would rather be patient with acute book fiction than obtuse movie lies.
Credit to movie (film) directors who have gone beyond cheap entertainment to feed us with knowledge alongside. Oedipus, Hamlet, Bakhita, 3 idiots, The Exam, Samurai Seven, Soilent Green, New Years’ Eve among others are a few good movies. They won’t be however exchanged for the books. It takes a lifetime to write a good book. It takes a day to pretend as an actor.
If you hate books you’d think movies are the epitome of creativity. If you lack imagination you’d think books are the epitome of creativity.
