The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

500 too much for hiking?

-: 500/- for fare n water??

Lung'afa: 500 is too much? Let me do a quick update cause I can see guys are paying.

Transport could take App 150 to and fro

The band will be payed for. Each person 50/-

We shall offer a few snacks  - for drummers and those who will not have carried snacks - Take 50 per person

We look forward to making Vihiga Hikers stable. So in every activity we expect a person to pay 200/- for development.

We remain with 50 Bob. This is such money the hiking team would put to use in situations where a member is in need, total amount not adding, paying hosts, miscellaneous, activity organising... Etc

So a Hiker should not complain but show more commitment. For future activities may charge more. And it is not about money, but commitment. So that we may keep committed and grow steadily.

-: Wot does that development entail?

Lung'afa: The near future needs us to have a few things...

- Stable Hiking items as tents, lamps, bags
- Facilities as a bicycle added for the group. We need them
- Ability for some hikers to reach out to other hiking teams
- The need for a future means of transport, like a vehicle.

- It is possible but we got to start SMALL. And we should start now, not tomorrow.

With Thanks

-‬: Okay no argument, very good ideas but don't they have participation?

-Lung'afa: Participation? We always have one to one talks with individuals.

Sometimes crowds pull sideways. Yet we try to be welcoming and answer the questions. You will find us ready to listen.

So the payments are in line with the HIKER'S VISION.
