The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

MOON; 18/08/2015

Take time to observe the sky. We will be hosting the moon in this cycle.

It was more than a week since I started looking for the signs of the new moon. Yesterday, when I was least expecting it, the shiny spectacle hit my nerves. As thin as it was, the celestial body was doing strong and promising another better cycle. Unlike the previous moon which came with a loss of some of my goodies and the end of my campus program, this has found me freerer and idealistic.

It must have been hidden in the sky for I am not sure whether it was first yesterday or a day before. I understand that there is a crescent stage that is rarely seen. Yesterday, as I take it was the first and I expect to do the same for the following cycle. Keep reading.

Then a thought came about…will people in future be religious as a profession? For instance, we have medics, astronomy, and marsonry among related occupations. Such is the way with my love for literature. The moon, as I may not want to be superstitious sometimes sees me mumble a prayer. Not to gods of course. Or maybe because the mind, heart and me are beings fed differently. Only a few thinkers may be religious…of course not the primitive one we doing now. Professionally religious I mean.
