The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

MOON; 22-08-2015

As taken at seven in the evening.

I was reading Zipporah by Marek Helter, an Horward Curtis translation from French languge outside in the sun after taking a bask when one of the meeting attendees started talking to ask what I was reading. I am reading about ancient oral truths that were turned into facts. You know, Zipporah is unsung heroine in the Bible. Religious books are oral traditions I guess.

Just then, talking simultaneously and adding thoughts to others- thinking he that I am uninformed, I aimlessly threw my eyess in the clear cloud scattered skies. Something like the moon was up there! At 2pm! I madly ran in and took the camera befor my eyes could lie. Snap snap snap.

Moon came when I was not expecting it. I was confident that come evening and the clouds are hungry to grab the atmosphere, I will have paid my dues- seen the moon. I knew that with time its intensity will increase. It was patient to succeed the sun.

It was in the East. The moon rotates round the earth. Did Ezeulu know that? Yesterday as it faded in the West it was going to the East. Today in the morning it was at the very place the sun rose from- people only saw the sun! How unfair! And so today as it has moved past the centre heading West to sleep, tomorrow I expect it in the East. Oh dependable moon!

It has grown! Soon it will be full! It is doing strong that it cannot be directlly stared by naked eyes unless it may blind you! Oh happy moon! I know sons of soil wherever they are they can observe and enjoy in its glory. As for those who died and got burried in the cycle, may it see to their eternity.

As taken at two in the day.
