The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

Izava Walk : Imemwa Stream

There however remains a nice grazing field after the bridge but too small for village cows. Cows too no longer want to gather there. After drinking in Izava it soon grows bonny exhibiting strange illnesses that is hard to be attended to by herbs. And when a doctor comes, the syringe kills it quick. Spring water, and not from Izava keeps children in homes busy. If the navizara sees it bad, she asks her children belabour no more. Yatuga yaki natamanyi kurihiza?

Izava took a super curve a distance before Vokoli-Gavudia bridge. A frog that was basking went in, mpu! This lead to none other place than mkivanda wa Laban. There gold is sought. There I was given the metal, touched the pebble and felt the weight. Handing it over, it was tied by a banana rope in munamsai leaf. The diggers were relaxing for a cigar as water refilled the ditch.

Yellow-like mine ditch, gold separated itself from the soil through decantation  and filtration. Grinding was for the deposits that were in rocks. Here, the gentlemen grabbed of how they have never sought employment. For one gram, I'd part with 2,800/-. First class gold, they said. The deposit was however small. More than once they've had to abandon a dig due to likelihood of slide.

This gold search was followed by another after Wekikubu spring. These gentlemen, one an aged papa, were from Tiriki. They had previous on explored river Igaragori. Then a man fished very small fish after them. In different ways, Izava ran for them, increasing in its volume.

Growing tired, the valley bottoms silent, farming presence everywhere, Imemwa soon forked itself as it poured in Izava. Imemwa originates from Wengondo, capturing fountains in Gahumbwa, Wagevi, Mambai, Nabwani, Gaigedi and Gavudia. Imemwa separates Gavudia from Gaigedi. This small a steam kids fished from. When Chavuli called us for lidasa competition, we played Muruvanda that faces Nabwani. There, once defeated, Gwaka did nothing but kunara.

Vasaali have borrowed much from Idakho due to their living as neighbours. Said a Mgihayo who said they migrated from Bugina. A wife needed not destroy the cooking stones, he added. And if she did, if she happens to come back, a new fireplace was made for her. The way her husband wasn't supposed to touch her tits, she wasn't supposed to touch his manhood.
