Heavy responsibilities for elder aunt among the Logooli

With Seenge Fonesi. She is the elder grand daughter of Isagi and elder daughter of Amugasya. She is often present in functions involving the family of Amugasya. Pic taken on 18/4/2024. The elder sister soon becomes the elder aunt. It is this “seenge munene” (elder aunt) tag that she is tied to many cultural responsibilities – back home. To her marital family she may appear as any other woman, but she is not so in the eyes of her people. Marriage does not steal her away as it would happen with other daughters of the old man. To her, as days go and the old man and woman of the estate are dependents, she becomes increasingly present.  Her brothers also need her for almost all traditional markings. They are marrying, she needs to welcome the new wife. They are giving birth, she needs to come to midwife or “bless” the new born. They are paying dowry she needs to lead the women delegate. There is a conflict she needs to come for a hearing.  And many others. Traditions does not expect her to

Proposal to form Saniaga Football Club (Saniaga FC)

Hello Family. Allow me to come to you with another Suggestion...as surely this group is meant to provide Forum to. And to add to the many others that have been accepted here and continue to strengthen our identity.

A one that we may want to say a word about. Or actively be part.

 😎😎😁😁.

There is going to be a Youths meeting at Wangulu Library this coming Sunday evening. It is a sports meeting.

There is a request to brand the local football team Saniaga FC among other Agendas of the day, a suggestion brought forward by part of the sports lads.

On asking, the team has had no proper and official representation. It has always been an effort of local youths who leave immediately greener pastures are sported.

The Branding is aimed at attracting patronising and instilling a sense of identity/responsibility among our energetic boys. It also aims to attract unrelenting support from patrons and well wishers unlike secular names that sometimes the sports men have to grapple with looking for support. For instance, the upcoming Vihiga County League Tournaments has found the boys unprepared and unsure of registering to going through all the matches for sometimes it needs facilitation.

As an integral community organisation, Saniaga CBO will, if the name (SANIAGA FC) is wholly accepted, recruit the team as part of its Community Programs. And it will engage the Sports Men within and without even in its other activities of community development that will not only promote talent exploration but also responsible youthhood. It  will also strive to alongside mentor girls and young women for a sister team in ensuring maximum community involvement.

Why interest in Branding a team and developing one? We know in our CBO/SACCO growth we are going to participate in many activities that would need active advertisement and involvement. Sports is one of the leading advertisement avenues. And largely a community entry avenue for Positive Change programs.

Any Foreseen Challenges? Yes, what would Masero and Kevembe identified sports men think with a Saniaga label? It is our role to communicate that Branding is integral and honest, non discriminatory and accommodative. That there are many other avenues of branding if organisations of such names come up which Saniaga CBO shall be partner to in their programs. And so far so good, Saniaga Brand is being accepted as a responsible community change name.

A scale up thought would  be in establishing young mentorship football teams around S-CBO libraries and areas of reach to nurture young ones to grow into talented SANIAGA FC club. Which, in gradual growth shall triumph County League, Division League and play in National League to beyond. It may lead to a need in modern football field structuring in the area among other hopeful things if the idea is well received.

What are your thoughts? They will surely inform the meeting and empower the sports people (some are here, listening).

- With Thanks
