Luanda Reggae Defenders - what is your long term agenda?

Luanda Reggae Defenders is a now a popular movement with roots in Vihiga and border Siaya and Kakamega counties Attention is brought to the manner and conduct the movement has gained fame and followers, mainly the Youths. The movement capitalizes on funerals. With a poor culture of putting the dead to rest, the Reggae Defenders have taken it by storm and rebranded the infamous ‘Disco Matanga’ – disco at funeral. They have this huge old school sound system that is over buzzing to no clear reggae song - that they hire a pickup to carry - and it has a young DJ mainly standing there than mixing anything. Often, against the rules, the casket is grabbed from a hearse vehicle and tied to a motorbike. There it will be swayed and jerk breaked between other motorbikes on the narrow roads. That, is, how a fellow soldier, often a young dead, is mourned. ...

What next when WhatsApp Group is full?

Lung'afa: Hello Fam, we are about to hit 257 people, a maximum WhatsApp Group allows. Efforts are being done to see if we can "expand" the number limit of this group. It will be unfortunate if we hit a limit and more of our brothers and sisters are not yet in the house.

To our beloved brothers and sisters joining us, welcome home! The best group in the world and using technology to counter distance and dispersals. We gather here as of one people under one roof. 

Briefly, we have been here since August 2017. So much has already been said and more is to come. It is not late to belong, it shall never be. 

We are structured with several Saniaga groups that meet in areas of location and pursue their interests. Saniaga CBO is what this group initiated first and our first AGM discussed a community library as our main way forward. The Library was well pursued and we look forward for more community libraries in Vihiga County and beyond. With Several Saniaga community libraries we shall not only have opened up our localities to think big but we shall also be on Saniaga adage of championing education and information. 

So far so good with the 2018 AGM sitting having approved SANIAGA SACCO as an economic empowerment forum in the Saniaga circle. The registration and commitment  contributions are ongoing with a General Meeting expected in February/March to lay the ground operations once we are certified. 

We are also concerned about Welfare and issues surrounding our community. These shall be discussed and agreed upon as our main activities get going.  

That is but a brief update to what foot we are on now and as we keep interacting more shall be put across. Govedi Muzami: When the SACCO picks  up and ideas are operational, the numbers will rise dive. We agreed not to form other groups (Whatsapp). I see us going down the slippery slope. How will we manage information🤷🏿‍♂ for the SACCO? Yaani vosi kove mu Saniaga Family Group alafu vandi kwenya kuzyi further to the SACCO. Food for thought. If the SACCO interested members have a different Whatsapp not Saniaga Group, it does not necessarily mean  that they are detached from the umbilical cord Saniaga Family. The Whatsapp SACCO has filtered information that is relevant to the SACCO and not to be the whole family. Matters of welfare, mariga, harusi, fundraising etc concern all of us as a common denominator that defines us as a Saniaga family. We use this common ground to transcend to the SACCO. In a nut shell we are all Saniaga family and whoever is interested to become a SACCO member at their discretion will do so only if they are members of the Saniaga Family.
