The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

Breaking Monotony

The moon is breaking Monotony too. It is not shining here - because no one gives it an eye?  Maybe. It does not shine in new places just as I do not showcase my ego there.

I left to Huruma for my friend Odhiambo. His mother welcomed the son of soil with three sweet salutes. ..karibu karibu...karibu. This is in preparation for the weekend activities. Keep posted.

We searched the skies at midnight with Odhiambo. Only a presumed bright clouds identified the moon. It is getting later and later in its rise as it ages. Will I get sleep in olden days?

After a bedbugs goodnight warning,  I was pretty sure that I may blame the creatures on insomnia. But they will find me prepared- no time on bed. He promised to wake up in the night and keep security out. Security because this is Huruma and somebody may snatch the camera in the flash. Two because the danchi tall housing here does not provide a more than acute angle sky diameter.

And at three,  with a pinch of a few bedbugs - oh I hate- he escorts me out and the satellite is absent. Breaking Monotony?  He does not know where East is from Huruma- the building. It may be the opposite direction of watch! It is not their problem but mine.

And so, in breaking Monotony there may no be goodness. But what an experience it can bring!

Thank you.
