The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

Kikuyu and Luo; learn from Kalenjin

Thumbs up, whistles sharper and drums louder to the sons and daughters of soil for bringing glory and fame to the land. Gods are proud and they want us to learn from that experience.

Kikuyus, Luhyas and Luos are silently admiring the medals brought by their kinsfolk- Kalenjin. Some identify by them and others silently feel jealous that fame fell on the wrong group. I was sharing this morning with a shoe shiner over the same and he had his wisdom.

'If they were of Luo descendants, their caravans could be packed at the airport, with some having it tough with police in town as they waited for the jet to land. The noise could be too much to bear and the sugar deal would be a discussion at the corner of the eye.' He talked some other vivid past experiences.

And I thought what Kikuyu would react if they were the runners. Matters ICC would be brought into the light wickedly. Tanzania would know who they really are- the government. Ngugi wa Thiong'o came in to speak to his people and not even his learned kins fed from his calabash comfortably. Luo, not knowing that Ngugi is non-government despised him by the name. When Obama came, they termed him 'their saviour'.

Kalenjins have won and the Earth is serene. As they smile, only hope is shown in the gap of the front teeth- beautiful! The Earth is comfortably rotating from East to West.

We have not given the Beijing competitions the reputations they deserved. Teachers strike is her to evaporate the celebrations. Our men competed on a world stage- like a world cup. Imagine America with like '40 Kenya’s' topped India, Eurasia, Australia and the Earth could not match us! The incidences of drug use that international media concentrated on is unfortunate- Kenyans have a brand!

Football in Kenya is a theatrical venture. Our third world plays cannot take us to the world's centre stage- But we have a consistent athletic successful output. Why can't we invest in that? Why can't we build better and worldly athletic facilities? Why can't athletics be our nationhood brag tag?

We know that our Nandi escarpments, food and societal morals keep us strong. This relates that even if Qatar offered Yego a billion shillings to ditch Kenya, we would still give rise to sons that will pass him like wind on the field.

Ours as a nation is to aim high, support internal abilities, do away with blind politics and bring the right media to the children's heads. We should cast our ambitions as far as 100M and our races as fast as a deer running to Mars.

If we develop the right kind of visions we would get over some social issues in Kenya.
