The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

MOON 08-09-2015 (The Last day)

At 4 in the morning

What if today was your last day? Let us not think of eternal life and matters spirituality. You have been chasing your goals so well- in fact living your purpose and then it happens that you can live no longer. Sometimes we least think of death. And when we do, we look at it negatively- an enemy. It is a result of a curse. But yesterday I was thinking of death positively. It is good to die. After doing all this and going through all that, I need a rest. Someone should come after and continue from there. Death is a rest. The problem is to face the last day unfulfilled
.
I was anxious to see the face of the crescent on its last day. I am not certain whether there will be a ‘stubborn’ death thereafter. It may refuse to die and show again another thinner curve. I am not sure for that but I will sleep with the door open to observe.

At cockcrow, I obeyed the alarm and went outside. Not that I had flowing sleep. Over the face nothing showed. I moved far away from it so that I can see far into the East. And there was the satellite! Small, shinny and curvy! Had I just thought it died yesterday, I’d miss the day’s glow. It was weak and slow that within a short time the rays of the sun would swallow it up before it reached the centre in the sky.

So the last day may be here or not. If I see it never again till the other life, then I was seeing the end. The end may not be the crumbling of the Earth- for what is minute Earth in the giant universe? The end is to die and go. Nature does not d anything uselessly- Aristotle.

To wait for the last day is not to hope for a better time when the last day comes. It may be tougher. It is to live today like never before. It is not to cry in prayers- it is to understand the vanity and the unwritten laws that nature is incorruptible. It is to wait when you are not sure when the end will come- and if it finds you conscious, receive it.

I did an article sometimes back with a different view on the last day. Have a look.
