Chahilu’s Funeral; Logooli Culture in action

Guuga Chahilu was respectfully laid to rest at his home on Saturday 14th June 2025. Having passed on at Mbale Referral Hospital on 31st May 2025, the two weeks leading to his burial were full of cultural discussions. His passing on is a great loss to the Logooli Language and Culture Family as he was a custodian and informer of Luhya Indigenous Knowledge. An observation as to how the funeral proceeded leads us to revist Logooli traditions amidst modern realities.  One, having left the house alive and now coming back in state, Chahilu was to be taken inside the house, placed muihiilu for a moment and then officially taken out in wait for earth burial. His casket was able to enter the doors. There are cases where the dead would find it difficult to be taken in and then out due to an oversized casket or thin door. A man or a lady of his house who died out of home has to be taken in the house for a last ritual mark. But if the person had died inside, he or she would not be brought bac...

When sourcing for S-CBO, let it remain so!

Lung'afa: ⁨Dr Sidika⁩ , you got the books for the Library. But you took them to the school. It may have been a good gesture but you cannot followup. Were they at the library you would have hands on. This is because the school is a separate institution. And in future if anything is accessed by the name of S-CBO let it come to S-CBO!

Have a working day, won't you?

Baba Ndanyi: Hey, what was the reason for taking the books to the school, was it a donation to the school or the S-CBO library?

Dr Sidika: @⁨Lung'afa⁩ I bought new books for the school. The book donations when received will go to the S-CBO Library. Sidika

Dr Sidika: Please don't be quick to comment on books issue. I clarify again. I bought and paid for the books from Jomo Kenyatta foundation and Kenya Literature Bureau. Their donations are yet to be given. The donations will go to the CBO Library. We should now be thinking of a pay bill number for the donations to the S-CBO library directly and open an account for the library project. Sidika

Lung'afa: The school needed the books more than the library?

It is like underfeeding your child with excuse that you feeding a friend's child.

I do not even know the number that went to the school. Cause the government has a book a child policy. And a community library can help more learners and other resource looking people.

As for the CBO, again, if there be any deal, let it be  a CBO deal. Cause more often conflicts of interest do arise.

Erick Author: 🤔🤔 I'm getting... There's a school then there's The library. When I bring over my books I'll personally put them onto the shelves of THE library to avoid confusion.

Dr Sidika: @⁨Lung'afa⁩ kindly find out if the school has the books and if they do, then we shall revert them to the cbo. I don't think I want to mix Std one to three pupils with the community shopping centre library. I kindly request support for the renovations of the old church for surrounding schools library. Sidika

Musimbi Wangulu: The books have not been stamped, we (Wangulu primary) personally requested Dr.Sidika for resources to the school. Infact this library is our brainchild through Dr.'s faith in the future of the community. This community is going to get more n more resources. Remain focused. Some of the early graders might not have an opportunity to come to the library oftenly. Let's end this tassle

Lung'afa: If this forum ever inspires people to do great works, start by supporting initiatives therein.

It would be improper to want a personal ideal to get streamlined as you work on your wants.

In short, support S-CBO good people!

Evans mwifa saniaga: Elaborate?

Lung'afa: It is in the details.

Baba Ndanyi: I think the best way forward is to make the S - CBO library the main center and if we have excess supplies like books we can donate to the surrounding schools, let's channel our energies and efforts to the library, let's empower the centre fully.

Lung'afa: Thanks Papa.

Nyongesa: What kind of books are urgently needed? That way it's easy for one to bring their contribution. I have quite a number of set books my gals used in highschool.

Jane Bwonya: Set books are appropriate for the library. The youth can read them to improve their reading, comprehension, vocabulary and also equip them with analytical skills.
