Luanda Reggae Defenders - what is your long term agenda?

Luanda Reggae Defenders is a now a popular movement with roots in Vihiga and border Siaya and Kakamega counties Attention is brought to the manner and conduct the movement has gained fame and followers, mainly the Youths. The movement capitalizes on funerals. With a poor culture of putting the dead to rest, the Reggae Defenders have taken it by storm and rebranded the infamous ‘Disco Matanga’ – disco at funeral. They have this huge old school sound system that is over buzzing to no clear reggae song - that they hire a pickup to carry - and it has a young DJ mainly standing there than mixing anything. Often, against the rules, the casket is grabbed from a hearse vehicle and tied to a motorbike. There it will be swayed and jerk breaked between other motorbikes on the narrow roads. That, is, how a fellow soldier, often a young dead, is mourned. ...

Kamnara (Saniaga) Self Help Group - Iduku

Kamnara (Saniaga) Self Help Group met at Iduku for their monthly group meetings. They meet every 4th day of the month, and have been active since April. Prior on there was an official group which became defunct due to lack of internal and external motivation and such other errors that would have been avoided.

Well attended and of good participants, the group is disciplined both in procedure and talk. Laban Otwombe is the chairperson.

A new member registers by Ksh. 100. He or she then pays Ksh. 10/- to cater for stationery. Monthly, it is Ksh. 100/- a member contribution. As part of building individual's share money and group's capacity. Ksh. 10/- is extra given monthly to facilitate communication from the secretary to the group members. Unless otherwise, Ksh. 300/- a member is given when a member is in great need or bereaved.

Their procedure of meeting is by members being settled by 2pm. Any other member who arrives after that is penalized Ksh. 10/-. An opening prayer is said. Agenda starts by preliminaries and reading of previous minutes. The above payments are part of the agenda that follows. After which there is a lesson about 'Traditions and Customs' before AOB. Where members can say what else they wanted to say before the meeting comes to an end.

So far there are 91 members. As every member registers, he or she is given a number. The chairperson, in this group, is always read as first. To show the lead in payments, time keeping and all other group procedures.

The group is still building on its number of members as more keep joining monthly. Their target is 300 members. A member is requested to reach others who are not yet in the group and by joining, all will be on the same leaf as one people.

This is encouraging of them as all other Saniaga groups. Such good organization and will will make it easier for us to spur in the right direction with least effort. May they keep on strongly and through the group benefit both in knowledge and providence that we so desire.
