Heavy responsibilities for elder aunt among the Logooli

With Seenge Fonesi. She is the elder grand daughter of Isagi and elder daughter of Amugasya. She is often present in functions involving the family of Amugasya. Pic taken on 18/4/2024. The elder sister soon becomes the elder aunt. It is this “seenge munene” (elder aunt) tag that she is tied to many cultural responsibilities – back home. To her marital family she may appear as any other woman, but she is not so in the eyes of her people. Marriage does not steal her away as it would happen with other daughters of the old man. To her, as days go and the old man and woman of the estate are dependents, she becomes increasingly present.  Her brothers also need her for almost all traditional markings. They are marrying, she needs to welcome the new wife. They are giving birth, she needs to come to midwife or “bless” the new born. They are paying dowry she needs to lead the women delegate. There is a conflict she needs to come for a hearing.  And many others. Traditions does not expect her to

The Isagi

With mwalimu Kesenwa (centre) and Nelson Igunza at Gavudia
The Isagi are also extensively spread like kin Saniaga descendants of his age. We date Isagi mid 1800.

Above him, he was the son of Riguchi. Riguchi the son of Mugenge Mudachi. Probably the father of Mugenge was Mudachi. Of a near father called Mweremi.

Riguchi, if not the brother to Madahana and Mwingisi, may have been closer to the genealogy that ancestry is not two or so generations away. With ongoing Saniaga Genealogy Search, we shall sooner settle on an ancestor for them all.

Riguchi did not sire Isagi alone. He sired Asiavugwa and Kazira too. It is at this time that we hear of Govedi and Ambuzi. And they may have arrived from somewhere Mbale to Mudete. Ambuzi going to Bugina while vaRiguchi and Govedi finding land in Gavudia. It was a spread from Mweywe to Gavudia to beneath, bordering Odanga, vaKayere.

Isagi's brother, Asiavugwa, remained at Gavudia, his land bordering the Muzembi, vaRiero. The primary school was cut from his land. It should also be agreed that when community schools were being opened and roads preffered up on the land and not down valley bottoms where by the time social activities happened, not much happened upfarm. Most likely guava trees and scattered grass grew there. Valley bottoms offered much both for people and cattle. Speak about thisckets and fruits, grazing fields and available water... Therefore giving out part of your land for a community school was a way of putting the 'upperhills' in use.

Asiavugwa married Kageha, muRugiri. They begot Joram Karani of Mweywe and Zibeon Bande of Gavudia. Vigehi, Resiba, Rosa and Sandere were their daughters, married at Sabatia, Viyalo, Induvatiru and Vohovole respectively. Sandere married to the famous Minyade at Vohovole, these are all rested in ash, where they came from. Zibeon Bande's elder son, Wellington Bande was born in 1952. He married two wives and all inherited Asiavugwa's land at Gavudia. With Joram Karani being migrated not far, Mweywe, neighbour to Chafunya, the Muzami's.

Isagi himself begot Simon Chanzu, Daudi Rung'afa and James Amugasia with Robai Vuguza, muGamuguywa. With Kasaya, mukana muMuku, he begot mwana muderwa, Magomere. Found at Gavudia, a few metres from Asiavugwa.

The land where Isagi settled Robai was bought when he combined with one called Kihangara. They gave two jembes, 2 goats and a pot of brew to buy the land which starts from Izava splash when you are going up Mudungu centre. One reknown neighbour was Peter Kibisu, once a member of Parliament, Vihiga Constituency, muGisunda.

Grown, Chanzu oversaw the upcoming population pressure and sold his land to the two brothers, Rung'afa and Amugasia. Both gave out Ksh 175/- each. But Chanzu would later beget 300/- because matugu gari garuhiza vandu. Kuduka ganyanye! With 300/- only, Chanzu went to Nandi, Kapsasur. There he got a huge chunk of land for his three sons; Erikana, Ken and Nelson. He often came home, often walking, often not sitting but greeting here and there and gone...asking his brothers to consider getting lands yonder. But it found some Saniaga 'established' in religion and domestic survival than exploring yonder. Rung'afa was even told of Lugare. But he must have been those who whispered, 'Nziaki imagombe.' Not knowing the land pressure that his seven sons and five daughters would cause not more than two generations ahead. Him and his brother, nicknamed Chinjiri held firm at iChamakorove village, though with experiences of colonial working in Nairobi.

When Asiavugwa remained at Gavudia, Isagi to Mudungu (iChamakorove), their other brother, Kazira, spurred to Tiriki, Senende at Kabinjari. There, he married twice and begot Injugu first. Earnest and Jotham were of one Rikazuru woman. All are dead grandfathers and now great great grandfathers.

.....
Having earlier noted on the need to know the Madahana and Mbaisi (both of waDere) joint, there is also the Ruvusi lineage at Gaigedi, Siva at Chavuri and vaIsuzi at Gavudia. These are people not far from each other that settling to highlight their connection will better place us in the Search.
