The Kamnara of Sakwa are making ground to build for future generations

Greetings from the Kamnara of Sakwa! The Kamnara people of Sakwa on 27th December 2024 gathered at Village Park, Ajigo (near Bondo). Hosted by Kwaka Joseph, they hearkened to the consultative forum call, arriving in good numbers and early enough for a successful day. The gathering was chaired by Mr. Nying’ro James Onyango, a former (retired) assistant commissioner of Police. The introductions were excellent. The genealogies were mentioned in reverence, lengthy ones applauded. And courtesy of Enos Oyaya’s book, “Kamnara my people”, anyone who would need help had the documentation. Oyaya had launched the Kamnara book on 30th December 2022 at his home in Kamnara Mwalo, an event that gathered Vakamnara from far and wide. “What can we do that the generations to come will benefit from?” This was the clarion Mr. Kwaka Joseph called on all to fashion their minds to. Animal Names

Kibuusi is not L'logoli - kibaga

-: Pussy,  paka... Vyaraa kuho luswahiri nurusungu nirutaiza kweri!!?

-: I pick kibaga because many original luhya words are still there in Kiswahili.

-: Eg mbwa and imbwa

-: Imbwa I doubt. There is a word for a dog.

Lion is not isimba/king'ang'a. Somebody told me Idaranyi. Hehe

: Imbwa could be the shortening of isiimbwa, either way, still close to Swahili.

-: King'ang'a in my view is beast.

-: I tend to think most of these wild animals names are there in maragoli Bible. We can use it as a temporary benchmark. Anyone with it? Let me try find one on Google.

-: Isiimbwa is Idakho.

-: 😂, am not coming across maragoli Bible in my play store. But sure I used to read it when I was a kid and it had a lot of vocabulary.

-: Na ndevaa hee. Ivibuusi vyaaraho umusungu nataaza!? Vitarwaaku my folklore and our folktales!? Zisimbwa yizyo zyaari Ho for sure,  kigira avahiizi varaa  nazyo mu zingano.

-: King'ang'a is the general word for beast. You can say King'ang'a chakava yaha which could be engo (leopard) or imbiti (hyena).

-‬: I've got one,navutswa kaveye tattered.

-: Imbwa is foreign. The way kibuusi is. The way kekombe is.

-: Imbwa, ikibaga, eng'oombe, imburi, iligoondi, isukiri(ipuunda), ing'wiina, iking'ang'a, emboongo, embogo, ilikinieeli, etc, all these animals existed before wazungu came, imbizi yaali imbwa yukuhiiza naho yukuhiima.

-: Ilikinieeli hicho ki mruswahili?

-: Imbizi. That's it. Not imbwa

-: Imbizi is a wild pig.

-: Kivwa is jackal, the wild dog

-: Ing'wina is a crocodile.

-: Mbol'langwa ndi ilikinieli limenyi mu magina. We do not know what it is in English because we have not seen it.

-: Kivwi is a fox, yes or a jackal

-: Rock hyrax..

-‬: Mangidi ni inyama ki mu lusungu?

-: Mangidi is mystical, it's like rinani in maragoli folk tales.
