The Kamnara of Sakwa are making ground to build for future generations

Greetings from the Kamnara of Sakwa! The Kamnara people of Sakwa on 27th December 2024 gathered at Village Park, Ajigo (near Bondo). Hosted by Kwaka Joseph, they hearkened to the consultative forum call, arriving in good numbers and early enough for a successful day. The gathering was chaired by Mr. Nying’ro James Onyango, a former (retired) assistant commissioner of Police. The introductions were excellent. The genealogies were mentioned in reverence, lengthy ones applauded. And courtesy of Enos Oyaya’s book, “Kamnara my people”, anyone who would need help had the documentation. Oyaya had launched the Kamnara book on 30th December 2022 at his home in Kamnara Mwalo, an event that gathered Vakamnara from far and wide. “What can we do that the generations to come will benefit from?” This was the clarion Mr. Kwaka Joseph called on all to fashion their minds to. And issues were raised in the fields of Education, health, agriculture, enterprise, politics and more that the swift dholuo would...

Saniak in Kalenjin, Tachoni and Bukusu

-: Good morning Saniak

-: Morning too

-: What does saniak mean in kalenjin? I was drinking with a kale work mate who told me that it means a bastard kid/son. No emotions here anyway. What did you guys find out. 😁

-: Saniak is a geographical area near Baraton University

-: I have always wanted to know how this clan came into being. Can someone enlighten me please

-: Kalenjins who are saniaga call themselves saniak bro read history

-: Rev Muhindi fro wetsimbalo mbale can brief us

-‬: The reason why i am asking this is because i attended a dowry negotiation sometimes back and that question was posed. Even the wazees could not explain it satisfactorily

-: Hope to get the answer from the wise saniaga wazees

-‬: This killed me.giv  me direction which book to be specific?

-‬: What answer did they give?

-: Maragoli say we were born out of wedlock. Wazee say we migrated from South nyanza to kiboswa from there we came to kindinye matsigulu area then we settled in gisambai for others give it history will trace u n draw inferences

-‬: It was embarrassing wacha tu. The question was asked twice with no clear answer

-: Hiyo ya migration from south nyanza inaka uongo. My grandpa migrated from western not sure where then settled in South nyanza and brought most of his family there.I am tracing the roots back in Western. His son didn't show us way.

-: Could this still be qualifying the fact that saniak means bastard, 'out of wedlock?'

-‬: Nixon ulienda ukafanya research ama unangojea ingine tena😂

-: Be informed that the vasaniaga of maragoli, the Saniak of nandi and the Kamnara of Luo,  we are one and the same family.  So wazees prohibited intermarriage between those clans. Just the way the Suba of Nyanza can't intermarry with the avasuuba of maragoli.

-: I also happens to have met vasaniaga (Basaniaka) that are Bukusu and Tachonis from Bungoma and Trans Nzoia... And they are usually surprised that Maragolis too have the clan.

-: Didn't know this. Can you believe the Bukusu also have a Saniaka clan. I even heard they were trying to reach out to the Maragoli counterparts though I don't know how far the plans went

-: A Tachoni girl was literally hanging onto my neck for me to take her home, only leaving me alone when she discovered we were both 'basaniaka'😅😅

-: Yeah. Their language is quite similar to Bukusu.

-: Now I know. I thought this other tribes were all fertile grounds for planting.

-: Though I don't think it's really taboo to plant there. Is it? What would you do if you found that out later.

-: Nowadays no more emphasis ...we are slowly loosing our customs. However, FOOD FOR THOUGHT.. Maybe one of our future strategies should be how to reach out to these other groups and consolidate ourselves into a large formidable clan... You never know, maybe we have the capacity to produce the next president!

-: Was that even an issue back in the day?! Men sew seeds wherever there was fertile ground! I don't even think there was the concept of 'wedlock'

-‬: Kitanda hakizai haramu.Hata Kama!

-‬: Officialy Murogori had only one five with five kids hence the original five clans. The rest of other clans are kids of his other wives,concubines...

-‬: hee...guys. ive leaned so much from u....we ve grown old but we know nothing

-: It's good to know that you know nothing, you are now motivated to know something

-: I only meant to clarify what a friend told me. It's true that this should make us stronger  rather than weak. It's a blessing in a guise. When you see a log of wood floating on water you have to take care because it might just be a crocodile. That's saniaga 😁😎.

-: We will need to do a research on our clan to understand where we came from judging from the answers i have read above which are in bits. You may all be right, but then we need to be sure of what we are talking about. That's my opinion

  1. Allow me say the following with regard to Saniak clan and it's origins-Like many other clans,it cuts a cross several ethnic groups.Like the Abatembori or abatabori or mataborik(in maragoli, gusii and kipsigis respectively) the Saniak clan is older than so called Bukusu, maragoli etc groupings. This clan a long others( I can mention them if you so wish) we're Of Dorobo/Athi/Gumba(The earliest inhabitants of East Africa). The Bantu,Nilotes and Eastern Cushites later migrated into the region resulting cultural borrowing on large scale. The above later immigrants ended up inheriting clan names from the ancient groups. That is why clans such as the Kapchemuri among the Nandi,The Abashimuri(Idakho),Abamuri(Bunyore) and Umuri(Luo) draw from the same source. The same can be said a bout the Avasweta(Maragoli),Paswetek(Kipsigis) and Avasweta(Gusii).Abakivuta in maragoli are one with the Chepta whose other name is the Talaai. The Kigame of Uganda are of same extraction as the Chiga of Tanzania;so are the Haya(TZ),Khayo(Busia) and Vakihaya(Imuhaya-Vihiga).Allot of information we have in our history text books are just but myths. The various clans listed as the maragoli,Bukusu,Nandi components are not necessarily blood relatives, according to athropological research,an ethnic group is made up of original founding clans or families, foreign clans/families and a dopted strangers.Migration, warfare, trade, intermarriages tore and fused together different entities.(watcha nikomee happy kwa leo)
