The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

Saniaga Family (B) -WhatsApp

Welcome Family,

You are added to WhatsApp group B because Group A is full. WhatsApp only allows a group membership of 257 people maximum.

Group A was opened on 7/8/2017. And it has been very productive since.

Briefly, we gather here to keep the family ties strong. Identity is first at the list of self realisation. Where purpose for life is sourced. And we live each day working to accomplish ourselves.

On that note, we have had several meetings of Saniaga. There are established self help groups, CBO's and Saniaga Welfare groups around Vihiga county and away. We encourage the formation of more.

Presently we are on the run to set up community libraries every place there is an active Saniaga group. For the community but patronized by Saniaga. One is active. Two are undergoing set up and more buildings have already been donated by Saniaga.

We are contributing monies and putting in place measures to successfully launch SANIAGA SACCO come August 2019. This is one of the economic empowerment initiatives by members. There are business ideas at incubation stage. One is Saniaga Yoghurt and the other Saniaga Water. Everyone is welcomed to add on them or champion ideas worth putting Saniaga on the map as members get empowered.

We are ongoing with activities as setting up tree nurseries, supporting Saniaga Football Club at the grassroot level and brainstorming on preventive health care.

We are a resourceful people and we can do exemplary work. We welcome good will from every Saniaga. We welcome our fathers and mothers for guidance, siblings for pulling together and our young ones to enjoy the efforts of our time for their future pride.

We are online. Saniaga on Facebook, twitter, blog and website. All that we undertake is archived. Including talks here. You can read at saniaga.blogspot.com

Again, everyone's support and good will is key to our success. Ideas, time, volunteering, contributions, partnering and all ways of keeping the Saniaga flag high at the pole.

May you find it rewarding to be at home.

With Thanks
