Chahilu’s Funeral; Logooli Culture in action

Guuga Chahilu was respectfully laid to rest at his home on Saturday 14th June 2025. Having passed on at Mbale Referral Hospital on 31st May 2025, the two weeks leading to his burial were full of cultural discussions. His passing on is a great loss to the Logooli Language and Culture Family as he was a custodian and informer of Luhya Indigenous Knowledge. An observation as to how the funeral proceeded leads us to revist Logooli traditions amidst modern realities.  One, having left the house alive and now coming back in state, Chahilu was to be taken inside the house, placed muihiilu for a moment and then officially taken out in wait for earth burial. His casket was able to enter the doors. There are cases where the dead would find it difficult to be taken in and then out due to an oversized casket or thin door. Neccy Flossy: Gud mrg all! A central place like Mbale CBD😜😜to hold the AGM on 29th December, would be a better catchment area for all Saniagas, me thinks. Especially being on a Saturday. Am offering a meeting place 4 that day, God willing and if acceptable to all, upstairs at Kwadaka Place in Mbale. It is the building that houses PostBank. There is a side entrance that leads upstairs. BUT, the hitch would be to hire chairs @10 bob each which, who ever sits on can changia the 10b. Just a thought as me thinks many saniagas tending to their Saturday wares at sokoni, may...

Lumadi Jenyeka: The library already has chairs and it will be a good opportunity for members to assess its progress and to meet the community it  serves as well.

Vuchee, sande ligali for the Mbale premises for our AGM, but let's use the Library for this one, it will give us a chance to see our first project in operation live, but we may revisit the offer around April next year for a review of the Sacco operation and confirmation of laws that will guide us in running the Sacco; subsequently in future we will be looking for such centrally located places for our meetings, thank you and God bless you.

Kibisu Joash: Fantastic place and a very good idea
