The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

No mergers. Maintain entities and let S-SACCO be of convergence.

Baba Ndanyi: Out of the conversation we've had on the general outlook and way forward for Avasaniaga, the feeling among us is that we stick together as a family, we grow together even though we may have different addresses, there is the Saniaga CBO, Saniaga Welfare Association and now the Saniaga Sacco.

All the three are important to us and wouldn't wish us to dissolve or swallow any of them, we can all coexist without stepping on each other's toes. In this case we allow the welfare team to deal with the funding of such items like education for the needy among us, benevolence and bereavement and any other emergencies arising; the CBO to mobilize funds for investment into income generating ventures and empowering our people economically; and the Sacco to be our convergence point, purely saving members funds for their own benefit. Any different suggestion please?!

Kibisu Joash: My thought too.

Baba Kereda: Well said dad ndanyi

Baba Ndanyi: In case you are in agreement with what we are saying, can we agree to belong to all the three entities as individuals and/or as groups, so that when we talk about all the three you are marked as a member, we will also have a committee of not more than 5 people who will act as arbitrators between the three Saniaga entities in case of any dispute or conflict of interest, but without the powers of interference in the running of any of the three Saniaga entities.

George Indiazi: I do concur that we have 3 entities. You can count on my vote.  Indiazi wa Kakamega Town.

Kibisu Joash: Now that we have approved that the status quo is to be maintained then is up to us as individual members to up our shares in the sacco
