The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

The Sacco as an idea in its formative stages

Lung'afa: Right brothers and sisters.

The SACCO is an idea that is still in its formative stages. No step has yet been made. Not yet registered, no approvals whatsoever. We only have Saniaga CBO functioning.

The SACCO is an idea that will be discussed come December AGM (29-12-2018). Then it shall be launched with in-charge members and other modalities of payments and future engagements.

You may ask, why then the contributions? We are contributing to show commitment to the Sacco idea. That as we sit to speak of it, we already have willing members. The monies will start us off as part of initial personal savings. The meeting will decide how much will be for registration and how much for timely contributions. We started  with 2500/- mark because the idea was born here back in August (500 a month since then to Dec).

It were good that all of us be part of this initial process. Spread the word to families and all interested. By no time we shall all be at par and aimed for greatness.

- Let us talk.

Baba Ndanyi: I would wish to appeal to the Saniaga family to embrace the Sacco idea, those who have not yet joined, please do so as a matter of solidarity with family members, those who have joined, bravo to all of you, please aim at having at least 3k by the time we launch end of this month. You will be doing one great thing in your life that will greatly benefit many  generations ahead of us, good evening. We also need to be at least 30 people to make a Sacco, I believed we can manage at least 50, it's not hard.
