Chahilu’s Funeral; Logooli Culture in action

Guuga Chahilu was respectfully laid to rest at his home on Saturday 14th June 2025. Having passed on at Mbale Referral Hospital on 31st May 2025, the two weeks leading to his burial were full of cultural discussions. His passing on is a great loss to the Logooli Language and Culture Family as he was a custodian and informer of Luhya Indigenous Knowledge. An observation as to how the funeral proceeded leads us to revist Logooli traditions amidst modern realities.  One, having left the house alive and now coming back in state, Chahilu was to be taken inside the house, placed muihiilu for a moment and then officially taken out in wait for earth burial. His casket was able to enter the doors. There are cases where the dead would find it difficult to be taken in and then out due to an oversized casket or thin door. A man or a lady of his house who died out of home has to be taken in the house for a last ritual mark. But if the person had died inside, he or she would not be brought bac...

Can't we get the volunteers?

As for whom to send the subscription to so as to keep us Moving, I would appoint Joash Kibisu. For interim costs, I will be meeting @⁨Ndanyi Saniaga⁩ coming weekend to see how it goes. I was with @⁨Antsalom⁩ yesterday and today and she would be happy to see this roll...  May the appointed individuals agree to it...

Ndanyi Saniaga: My humble suggestion, the interim official should be apportioned offices, chairperson, secretary and treasurer, allow the treasurer to take responsibility from the word 'go' let him/her be the one to receive and transact as directed by other officials and members

Lung'afa: The registration money as I understand is for Initial operations -regiatration of the group. A CBO needs 5K or so. Some costs are included. The best place to register is Vihiga County. Now, for start let us have @⁨Ndanyi Saniaga⁩ to receive the cash and the text forwarded to me. He is wise to see the group move. I volunteer Secretary Position. I love writing. Then other positions should come as needed. If we would want to open a bank account then we can see who among us are 'undoubtedly' flexible. That is how simple we close the subject of Registration if there is no doubt.
