Chahilu’s Funeral; Logooli Culture in action

Guuga Chahilu was respectfully laid to rest at his home on Saturday 14th June 2025. Having passed on at Mbale Referral Hospital on 31st May 2025, the two weeks leading to his burial were full of cultural discussions. His passing on is a great loss to the Logooli Language and Culture Family as he was a custodian and informer of Luhya Indigenous Knowledge. Kamunara - 'come-nearer' version

-: There is one Luo Prof who said Kamnara means come near. He even said that the Kamnara were Avalogooli who were used by the colonialists. They carried guns. Prof Luvai might be in a position to contact Prof Owino Rew who knows something about Kamnara. I do not have Prof Rew's number.

-: My luo friend says the same. Bunde Kamnara... Bunduki Come Near...The guns then could only shoot when one was near. So you were to 'comenear' to be shot.

-: Yes and that Avalogooli were the ones who carried the guns. This means that they were Avasaniaga and so in Luoland they acquired the name Kamnara which has stuck.
We need to carry out extensive research on Avalogooli then move to Avasaniaga where we need to do even more research finding out why we are so scattered. There has to be a reason for this.

-: Venturing into the unknown, trust Umusaniaga to take the risk, they want to see what others have not, to sample what others wouldn't dare, Umusaniaga can never be idle and that is a proven fact.
