The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

Let us take the CBO serious.

Baba Ndanyi: Is this an original narrative? This is an exceptional masterpiece that should be in the Saniaga Magazine, these are the kind of articles that we need to gather for our magazine, I can even give it a title, ' In defense of the elderly heroes and heroines', have a wonderful day.

Kibisu Joash: Well written!!!  Thumbs up

Jeska sidika Wambani: Just get the old register themselves with the old age fund with county administration. It's cash given to 60+year olds every month. That was a write up that led to the establishment of the fund.Sidika

Neccy Flossy: What is Vunyari? What is Vunyaari? Vuyari?

Lung'afa: Yea. An original narrative among many articles at the blog. It happened yesterday when a senior knowledgeable elder  called me saying he was surely hungry.
- May we take the CBO thing very serious.

Lung'afa: Not enough. 4k? Can you survive on that? Kidogo sana

Lung'afa: @⁨Neccy Flossy⁩ , in creative writing, as in speech also, there is allowed to break rules. And I take pleasure in breaking them.

Here, Vunyari is Uwezo. Vunyaari is your word, Vuyari is from Ruyari, being Might.

And many more as one needs to keep rolling what can be rolled.

+254 722 5131‬: I beg to differ, coz vunyari and ruyari are two different words, one meaning uwezo as you have clearly stated but the other one means respect.

Jeska sidika Wambani: By the way I find total confusion in this group posts. Do we concentrate on grammar classes or discuss investments?I stand to be guided.Ruyari is glory/honor. Sidika

Jeska sidika Wambani: 4K is what some people earn here in Nairobi. Let's not trivialize it for someone retired at home in western. Sidika

Jeska sidika Wambani: 4K can sustain a family if well budgeted. Especially when you have no other income. Sidika

Lung'afa: People push their agendas. If yours is of investments, push it, keep informing us. I take great pleasure in language.

Victoria Ndanyi: 👍 I agree doc. 4k is  a lot of money in the village for one elderly person.

Victoria Ndanyi: most people upcountry whenever they see/ talk to/ meet a town dweller, they always say that. I think its a common cliché. Perhaps you imagined a crisis... #Just thinking

Lung'afa: Can we make a 'small' village budget? You people think village doesn't need money as such. I can tell that it is easier to survive with 4K in a small cold room around Huruma than an equal value of money at Kegoye.  Also there need to be extensional knowledge to them on how to utilise the 4K. And the government cant do it fully. Saniaga CBO can lend a hand by your ideas.

And what about those not yet 60 yet are hungry and despondent? We got to include them in our thoughts. 4K would not be enough to them even.

Lung'afa: Can I help you some contacts to needy cases? That you do your own follow up?
- I can detect a fake case a mile away.

Victoria Ndanyi: Naaah! Not in a position to do that. No need.

Victoria Ndanyi: You have many noble ideas.
Just take a step at a time.
Some ideas could be too ambitious and very long-term.

Victoria Ndanyi: Its very important for people/everyone to have some social networks even as early as now while still working. No man is an island

Lung'afa: For us to operate well, we go go all round, looking at aspects that entail wholesome socialisation.

Our uncle died the other day. There are children somewhere unschooled, elders are hungry etc and in solving them we would need very least of adequate preplanning. We are not saying we belabour ourselves... But we walk with all those in positions of need.

As a CBO, had it started early we would get the shame off our sleeves by knowing that in one way or the other we making the world a better place. Individually, most of us go philanthropic and it were better if we did it here too. Remember CHARITY is a key practice in religion - to believers. A human virtue indeed.

Ambushing people to courses creates excuses. I'm not prepared; A fake story; Life is hard; Why? ..... And all that.

I am speaking as a Member of Welfare Team. There are still more teams for those who subscribe to other thoughts!

Martin Kidiavai: Lung'afa when you visited me you looked extremely young but your harbour ideas and expression of a wiseman which is associated with the so called council of elders😀

Lung'afa: 😑. Kanyagia hiyo story. 🙈🙈. Mine is to request ndugu na dada zangu we make hay while the sun is still on. Nekovoraa kare. 😁😁

Martin Kidiavai: I mean i support the idea

-Jeska sidika Wambani: Well education never ends and we get educated on issues daily. Let me ask an ignorant question! What makes me or any of us think that someone who was well to do/ educated and now lives in poverty, will accept our discussion on how he should live now? We should now create awareness on retirement and how to prepare for it!!! I posted before that I have a medical proposal that will involve women,to uplift their economic standing and empower them economically to take health as their individual and family responsibility. I will share during the AGM. Sidika
