The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

Saniaga Welfare Chavakali - Another active group in the circle.

-: I found out today of another active Saniaga group called Saniaga Welfare, same name with Saniaga Welfare in Busali. But they are registered at Sabatia with social services unlike the Busali registered with the office of AG.

It at first had over 200 members but because of inactiveness, the group has less than 50 committed members that the secretary thinks is a good number to keep things running 'in the age.'

Members are of Chavakali and environs. Chaired by Amugune, secretarised by King's Sagala. Senior Surveyor Adaka is an active member. They have Merry go rounds of Ksh 400 a sitting, pay shares of Ksh 50 per sitting, pay Welfare Ksh 20 per sitting and table snacks Ksh 50. Meetings are monthly.

We now have 9 active Saniaga groups in our database.

There is another Saniaga group at Shamakhokho that Sheila Idala is a member to. When I meet them I will share and add them to our circle.

If there be any other group - cause there are- that we are not aware of, please let us know and familiarize ourselves accordingly.

With Thanks

-: We also have another group of saniaga girls who are married in tiriki land with more than 50 members. I will link you up
