The Kamnara of Sakwa are making ground to build for future generations

Greetings from the Kamnara of Sakwa! The Kamnara people of Sakwa on 27th December 2024 gathered at Village Park, Ajigo (near Bondo). Hosted by Kwaka Joseph, they hearkened to the consultative forum call, arriving in good numbers and early enough for a successful day. The gathering was chaired by Mr. Nying’ro James Onyango, a former (retired) assistant commissioner of Police. The introductions were excellent. The genealogies were mentioned in reverence, lengthy ones applauded. And courtesy of Enos Oyaya’s book, “Kamnara my people”, anyone who would need help had the documentation. Oyaya had launched the Kamnara book on 30th December 2022 at his home in Kamnara Mwalo, an event that gathered Vakamnara from far and wide. “What can we do that the generations to come will benefit from?” This was the clarion Mr. Kwaka Joseph called on all to fashion their minds to. And issues were raised in the fields of Education, health, agriculture, enterprise, politics and more that the swift dholuo would...

The Sacco minimum isn't too high for mama Dembeke

-: @⁨Lung'afa⁩ How do you intend on financially empowering the woman in Shamakhokho selling fruits? The Sacco's minimum contribution is too high for them.

-: She already has empowered herself thru her own initialives by waking up to fruits. She is not poor by the way but operates within her means, all she asks is a direction, a boost in what she is doing to play the game. In your mind you demean her but she is liquid throughout, reach out and both our mentalities change

-: A share is Ksh 200/-,  Corazon. We thought it is the best minimum for people who want to be Sacco members.

- She is the powerhouse. That mama.

-: 😇. Unfortunately, before she borrows, and as Karani Eboso said, there is training. Small as it can be. In our case, such a heart moment with them, explaining why Saniaga and where we aim. Because she is a Saniaga woman.

So that we do not give money without rapport. The Saniaga fire in them will do wonders.

We are not late, Neccy. Saniaga is coming. See the pace and let us do this together.

-: Affordability is a very relative term. You could afford 200/= doesn't mean somebody else can.

-: According to the email I recieved, the minimum shares is 50 that's 10,000 hence the basis of my question.

-: Financial empowerment is not just about giving money. There is so much to it. Who will give the advice? Do we intend on seeking partnership with financial companies to give us talks on savings, investment etc. That is what I am talking about.

-: Further, I was referencing Lungafas point that it's all about impact and that the aim is to start below. But 🤷🏾‍♀

-: Grassroots has a different approach, begin with what you immediately have at hand not with a bird in the bush. There are teachers and trainers here on forum and about

-: People are not poor, I believe, they just slumber in efficacy. They can choose to remain there if they dont show initiative fitst from their own page. Once they wake up (own human empowerment) money being just a fraction of the help, they excel. Our Mamas are not poor but can be made to look good in whatever yhey want to achieve.

-: You think the sister/aunt won't manage to save with us several 200's?

Excuse!

At least what she sells is 6,000/- stock. If not 4,000/-! If not the 3,000/- in her pocket. If not her potential to work casually and get some money.

If you have 10,000/- with us, you hardworking mom, you are on the path to sustaining your business with successive increasing loan limits depending on your servicing.

Anyways. That is not the only way. There could be better suggestions amongst us. And we welcome suggestions than mere doubt.

-: Waaaah, now you are talking thru analysis and evidence. This is what am talking about Mr Igunza! Thank you for that. Lets open both our heads and balance our hearts. Who says Mom Dembeke cannot afford 200/- and thats she is poor! No! Even if we think poverty, we wholly cannot feed her but we leave her to her own devices until she wakes up to chart her destination, advice comes then if she requires but not before.

-: Knowledge and analysis of one of my lower SME clients. She's in 7 chamas ' daily, weekly and monthly making a daily profit of 2,000-2,500. She has her money locked in them hence to survive for her personal needs she is forced to borrow. When it's her due  time from them she's spending that money paying off her debts.

Is she poor?

Should we leave her to wake up to chart her destination yet we're saying Saniaga forward?

She's started the business on chamas and had always depended on them but somewhere along the line she lost her footing and ended in a vicious cycle of debt. She wants out but doesn't know how. That's where financial empowerment - using the said teachers and trainers on this forum.

Now introduce to her the Sacco idea, do you think she'll join?

That's my line of thinking, I guess my grassroots experience is different.

-: Nice. Thanks for this worst scenario (that can be corrected/handled in training).

You can now highlight one of your best scenarios.

Much as I have a sarcastic tongue, I got a very optimistic mind. 😄.
