The struggle with many a rigid Logooli cultural practices

The Logooli community is one of the deeply cultured societies – with near everything supposed to have been done as per custom – to allow another custom to follow. One example is that for a mature man (with a child or more) to be buried, there must be a house structure at home. Another is that a boy must be circumcised and nursed in father land. If maternal family decides to, the boy will have a hard time reconnecting with father people - a dent on his masculinity. There were two children who got burnt to death in a house in Nairobi. The single mother had left for night work. Elders were told that one of the children was Logooli. The other, the woman had sired with someone else. The Logooli family wanted to burry their little one and long discussed the do’s and don’ts. Of a man who died childless and the grave was placed as if he had died as a man with children. It should have been dug on the sides, the grave. A real thorn should have been thrust in his buttocks, his name go...

Patrick, answer that. I will,

Victoria Ndanyi: Hi. Now that everyone is admin and some people are barely two days old in the group. Can I  kindly request the pioneer/ vision bearer(s) to do for us some introduction/brief because much information hasn't been said apart from the clan origin/history. I'm sure many of us are still hoping to get a little bit more of relevant details. Can we have some profile in terms of:
1. When did the group/association start?
2. Who are in the group (in terms of age group range)e.g 18-120yrs.
3. What's the vision/plans?
4. What's expected of us?
5. What's the funds drive about? Has it been there or is it starting
Some of us are lost somewhere.

I think it's quite in order that we have some of these crucial info so that everyone is at par, now that we are a large group. Hope I'm not offending anyone.

Ndanyi Saniaga: Patrick, the ball is in your court, translate that mu Lulogooli!!

Lung'afa: Hello. Thanks for asking. I will try to answer you.

Being in the group two days old does not make anyone younger. All saniagas are same, whether you have been in for months. Making everyone Admin is a quick way of adding members. We would want to be as welcoming as possible so that we may not leave anyone out.

Two generations ago (our grandfathers) there existed organised saniaga associations. Our fathers slightly did not pick it up. We would want to keep the fire burning and their dreams realised. We can do so much together. So we are not 'starting anything'. We are rekindling the fire.

All ages are welcomed to this forum. Your small curious child could be reading 'lulogoli' in this forum. Both the young and the aged can inform one another. This creates a rare interaction that is scarce to find. Therefore maturity and respect is required in all what we say here.

It would therefore keep us motivated if we developed a vision. And the vision is nothing but to use our abilities, resources and available opportunities to create what we would call 'a mark of our time'. It is not limited. May as anyone with a bright idea engage us.

That is why we are on the drive to register ourselves with the ministry of Labour and Social services. We request all of us to show commitment by registering so that the people tasked find it easy. The collected money, hence and thereafter shall enable us pick on various projects and  programs.

Even the child who will join tomorrow will be easily streamlined into Saniaga doings depending on areas of interest (as we shall keep developing).

Last but not least we shall keep everyone informed of our doings. May we own up this as our own. If we show reluctance we will see our logo up there but programs involving 'people who are not saniaga'. This is because some of us will surely sacrifice for the initiative and increase our circle with 'like minded people'.

If you ever wished to find soul mates to pull together, let this be the forum. If you ever had a dream, let it be watered here. If you ever treasured your heritage, may this be the ideal place.

PS - There are a big number of Saniagas not on WhatsApp.  Some don't have phones. We shall still reach them. Let those who are here be the ambassadors. If we had one mind from the many places we are scattered,  I will be diluting to say 'we can move mountains.'

Ndanyi Saniaga: That's it, very well stated.
