Chahilu’s Funeral; Logooli Culture in action

Guuga Chahilu was respectfully laid to rest at his home on Saturday 14th June 2025. Having passed on at Mbale Referral Hospital on 31st May 2025, the two weeks leading to his burial were full of cultural discussions. His passing on is a great loss to the Logooli Language and Culture Family as he was a custodian and informer of Luhya Indigenous Knowledge. An observation as to how the funeral proceeded leads us to revist Logooli traditions amidst modern realities.  One, having left the house alive and now coming back in state, Chahilu was to be taken inside the house, placed muihiilu for a moment and then officially taken out in wait for earth burial. His casket was able to enter the doors. There are cases where the dead would find it difficult to be taken in and then out due to an oversized casket or thin door. A man or a lady of his house who died out of home has to be taken in the house for a last ritual mark. But if the person had died inside, he or she would not be brought bac...

T-shirts and Design

Ndanyi Saniaga: Hi all, the Saniaga Family is currently engaged in the following activities;
1. Membership drive @500/ per individual, 2. Selling Saniaga branded T-shirts @1000/
3. Raising 1000/from each member for an income generating project.
We appeal to members to show solidarity and good will towards these ideal tasks, remember we want to grow together even as we interact as members of the same family, we have timelines, and we covet each member's participation.

Sharon Idala: OK. Tell us more about the options. We have round neck, colar and feminine design. So what do we have in store

Victoria Ndanyi: Our green logo looks very dull on the t-shirts' background. I  like RED. it does well on any background. Red is an attractive color too...

Sharon Idala: Anyway, buying the t-shirts is optional so in don't think it's worth laboring about the design

Sharon Idala: The logo just has to be green

Sharon Idala: Why are you so fixated on colours. Do I look like I don't know what I am putting across

Victoria Ndanyi: Its just my personal opinion. I wasn't discrediting anything you said

Sharon Idala: Same here. I am expressing my desire

Ndanyi Saniaga: I think the designer has the opportunity to meet the taste of each or group of members, its not a must to have everything uniform, I wish I was one, I would make a kill out of this!!

Sharon Idala: I wish they knew.

Lung'afwa Muzami: Good. Let the designer be liberal. Make personalised designs to meet the wishes of the members.

Victoria Ndanyi: yes. Well said. We'll have variety to suit all tastes. Saniagas tunajipenda. Watu Wa class.

Selma Nolega: On that note I am interested in a jumper.

Sharon Idala: Who is the designer so that we can place our orders

Sharon Idala: Ama tena itakuwa ni colour.

Ndanyi Saniaga: The designer will soon be smiling all the way to the bank

Sharon Idala: Sure. Atafutie tu kila MTU taste yake

Victoria Ndanyi: Hooded or bila hood?

Sharon Idala: Wapi mwenye order, aseme

Selma Nolega: Halafu the logo iwe on the back plus the name saniaga,n the front iwe the symbol pekee

Selma Nolega: On the top corner, anaweza

Ndanyi Saniaga: Hi designer, I'll soon come for lessons, I can see booming business here, no jock I mean it, Patty introduction plz!!

Lung'afa Igunza: Hahaha. Muranzita niziseko! Vana vitu, if you want hata Vest or what do they call the opposite? 🙈, You can place your order!

Now, I have received an order of 42 T-shirts from Saniaga Mweremi group based at Matunda, Kitale. We had sent them samples in their meeting today. They loved them!

If you think you want a T-shirt, just do one sweet thing, say the design you want, the colour, specifics and utaipata. For seriousness, pay at least deposit. A T-shirt is 1000/-. If you want more than that in specifics, an extra cost may apply.

When you pay/buy, you promoting the course. As a group, we got more to engage in and it would be easier with some finance.

Joash is the one doing it for us. He got the firm. We shall also be customising other items as utensils, pens, caps and all that. Even duvets! Nini haiwezekani? 🤓.

Ongeeni sasa.

Karani Victor: For me am ready ile itakuja.

Ndanyi Saniaga: I have sampled one already, msishangae mkiona nimeshine,

Karani Victor: Yeee gooo

Lung'afa Igunza: Selma, Tumia Metrine 2.5k and your hood uletewe na G4S!

Victoria Ndanyi: even shopping bags and lessos ....

Victoria Ndanyi: Calendars for 2018, spiral note books, diaries. Hapo nitapatikana pia.

Lung'afa Igunza: Quality T-shirt Round Neck - 1000
Collar T-shirt and Shirt (could be official) - 1500 (different makings)
Hoods - 2.5k

Because we going for a good office/shop, what best can we do there but make it a curio shop? Wait till you find family trees, well researched, a wall placement would sell at.... .

Metrine Saniaga: On our meeting today I suggested on the color of the logo should suit the color of he T-shirt to enable someone spot it 300m away this may change to meet a clients need ama namna gani Mr kibisu?
